Product: Content Automation

This guide is for anyone who wants Swashi to publish articles straight to their own website. It covers only the steps you take as a customer. No coding is needed for WordPress or Shopify.

Before you start

  • Admin access. You need to be able to sign in to your website as an administrator to create access details for Swashi.
  • Your site address. Have the full URL ready, for example https://example.com/.
  • A free slot on your plan. The header of Website Settings shows how many sites you are using, for example "1 of 3 websites on the Starter plan."

Connect a website

  1. Click Website Settings in the sidebar. The page reads "Connect WordPress, Shopify, Next.js or any Custom Website to Swashi to Automate Content Generation."
  2. Click Connect Website (WordPress, Shopify, or Custom). The New Connection form opens.
  3. Enter a Friendly Name. This is the name you will see in Swashi, for example "Main blog."
  4. Choose the Platform.
  5. Enter your Site URL.
  6. Fill in the details for your platform (see the sections below).
  7. Save the connection. Swashi tests it and confirms. Your site then appears in the list as Active.

To change details later, open the site and choose Update Connection. To remove a site, delete it from the list and confirm "Are you sure you want to remove this website?"

WordPress

WordPress connects with an Application Password: a separate password you create just for Swashi, which you can revoke at any time.

  1. In your WordPress dashboard, go to Users > Profile > Application Passwords.
  2. Create a new application password named "Swashi."
  3. Copy the password WordPress shows you.
  4. In Swashi, under WordPress Configuration, enter your Admin Username and paste the Application Password.

Important:Copy the application password straight away. WordPress shows it only once.

Shopify

Choose Shopify as the platform and enter your store URL. Under Shopify Configuration, add the Admin API access token from your Shopify store admin.

Custom website (webhook)

For a website built on another system, such as Next.js, choose the custom option and use Webhook Integration. Enter the webhook URL where your site receives new articles and the API Key / Secret Token your site expects. Swashi sends each article as both HTML and Markdown, together with its tags, FAQ and meta information, so your site can show it the way it prefers.

Settings for each website

Every connected site has its own settings.

SettingWhat it does
Uses your Business BrainOn: the site inherits your brand voice, company profile, documents and FAQs. Off: content is written from the site's own topic and audience.
Language detectedThe language Swashi found on your site. Multilingual sites show how many languages were found.
Publish targetWhether articles go live or arrive as drafts. The Website Content page shows this as your Default Publish Target.

Note:Business Brain is off by default for each website. Turn it on with the switch if the site belongs to the business your Brain describes. Leave it off for a website that belongs to a different company or industry, such as a client's site. Use Open Business Brain to update what your Brain knows. Learn more about the Business Brain.

Troubleshooting

  • "Error saving website. Please try again.": check the Site URL (include https://) and the access details, then save again.
  • WordPress connection fails: make sure you pasted the application password, not your normal WordPress password, and that the username belongs to an administrator.
  • Duplicate site warning: "This website is also connected to another Swashi account" means another account publishes to the same site. That can create duplicate articles. It is expected if an agency manages the site with you.
  • Articles stopped publishing: open Website Settings and confirm the site still shows as active. If you changed your password or revoked the application password, update the connection.

Frequently asked questions

Which website platforms can I connect to Swashi?+

Website Settings connects WordPress, Shopify and custom websites. A custom site, such as one built with Next.js, connects through a webhook integration.

Do I have to give Swashi my WordPress password?+

No. You create a separate WordPress Application Password for Swashi and paste that in. Your normal login password is never needed.

How many websites can I connect?+

Free connects 1 website, Starter 3, Growth 10, Agency 35 and Enterprise 150. The Website Pack add-on adds 5 more sites to any plan.

Why is Business Brain off for my new website?+

Business Brain is off by default for each website. Turn it on only if the site belongs to the business your Brain describes, so a client's site is never written in your brand voice.

What does the warning that my website is connected to another Swashi account mean?+

Another Swashi account has also connected the same site. Publishing from more than one account can create duplicate articles. This is expected if an agency manages the site with you.
